FISHING

The Bitterroot River runs the length of the Bitterroot Valley from south to north. A premium flyfishing river with a 9 month dry fly season the "Root" originates in the high elevation of the Bitterroot Mountains to the West and the Sapphire Mountains to the East. The upper river is characterized by relatively fast flows over larger cobble, your typical freestone stream. The upper river is a dry fly fisherman's paradise. With a healthy population of West Slope Cutthroat trout, you will also find good numbers of Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, and Rocky Mountain Whitefish as well as an occasional Bull Trout. The lower river widens and slows through the town of Hamilton giving the boat angler an excellent opportunity to cover water while prospecting for large trout. To get the best guide in the valley, contact mtheadwaters20@gmail.com. Ask for Alex and tell him the City Center Motel sent you.
